Five token inventory gaps that sink control narratives

Inventory is where quiet errors accumulate. These five gaps appear repeatedly in Rapidwebapi labs.

1. Nickname-only addresses

“Ops hot 3” is not a control object. Map each address to a custody role and environment.

2. Dual-counted omnibus balances

Internal mirrors and exchange views counted twice inflate assurance. Reconcile with a single source hierarchy.

3. Retired wallets still listed

Addresses with zero balance that remain “active” in the pack invite questions about monitoring coverage.

4. Unsupported dust treated as immaterial without a rule

Immateriality needs a written threshold and owner — not a shrug during the meeting.

5. Timestamp mismatch across exports

If the exchange CSV and the internal ledger disagree by hours, document the timezone and cutover rule before anyone screenshares.

Catching these early is half the work of digital asset control audits for fintech. The other half is writing the remediation backlog so engineering knows what to fix first.
